New year, new blog, and a big resolution for 2018!

I have had the framework of this blog set up for months and months now, but hadn’t added any content. I am not sure why, it just seemed like there was always something else I should be doing. But since January is a great time for a new beginning, I am going to dive in and see if I can get some momentum going!

Yesterday in the car I had an interesting conversation with my teenage son.

Me: “What resolutions do you have in mind for the new year?”
Son: “None.”
Me: “None? Really?”
Son: “I don’t see the point. Why wait for the new year to try to do something good?”

I actually totally agree with that. Waiting for the new year to try to improve yourself is like what I do when I resolve to start a diet on Monday. What’s the point of waiting? And what’s so magic about Mondays? I could start that diet today, right now! So, up to this point, I’m on board with him. But then the conversation went on…

Me: “Well, if you aren’t taking stock and deciding on things you can do to improve, now that it is a new year, when do you do it?”
Son: “I don’t know.”

So, while I can’t argue with his logic of not waiting for a rather arbitrary milestone to make a resolution to improve something in my life, the problem with his approach is that it will never happen. I suppose since he is 18 he figures he really doesn’t have any improving to do. After all, the last couple of years it has become abundantly clear that he knows way more than I do regarding just about everything. (*shaking my head* … teenagers!) 🙂

Anyway, my biggest resolution is to read the entire Bible and Catechism of the Catholic Church by 12/31/2018. Yep, I want to get through them both in this one year. I have a reading plan all laid out (courtesy of The Coming Home Network’s plan “Read the Bible and the Catechism in a Year”).

As of today, January 2, 2018, I am on track! I know that isn’t all that impressive, but on the flip side, it would be pretty sad if I was already slacking on this goal, haha!

So my plan is to track my progress and reflect on some of the readings via this blog over the next year, as well as share thoughts on some other faith topics as we go. I may also feel inspired to share some recipes and maybe some other tidbits. We will see!

I hope you will stick around and read along, and maybe even join me in my goal to read the complete Bible and the Catechism in 2018.

If you are thinking you want to join me, below are the versions I will be using. {Affiliate links}
